Looking after your hair…

Looking after your hair could not be simpler but many of us lead busy lives and need a gentle reminder of the golden rules so that we can keep on top of our precious locks. Modern life is packed full of products, pollution, harsh winters and hot summers, all of which can have an affect on the overall health of our hair. To make the most of yours, make sure you are applying these tips to your hair care routine.

1. Shampoo and Conditioner – now this is a tricky subject simply because there are now endless products available to us so choosing your weapon of choice is harder than ever. We say the product that leaves your hair weightless is a winner and you will find this in products that specifically mention ‘volumising.’ If you are already the proud owner of puffed up tresses then you may want to go for a frizz free option, alternatively there are a lot of good ranges for coloured hair that can fend off fading. With conditioner, bear in mind less really is more, keep usage to a minimum and only wash hair every other day but treat yourself to an intensive deep conditioning treatment once a week.

2. Styling – by only washing your hair every other day, you eliminate the need to dry it every day, which means the amount of heat damage to your hair is reduced. If you are going to use heated products, we would recommend ghd simply because they are designed to protect your hair whilst exposing it to high temperatures. The barrels on ghds are rounded meaning there is less pull on your hair and therefore a lot less damage. Only blow dry hair in a downward motion and do not concentrate heat in one area for too long, keep that hairdryer moving around.

3. Colouring – the majority of people these days have their hair coloured, we prefer doing this in salons, although the pricier it is the better it is for your hair because their dyes and toners really are of a higher quality. Dying hair at home can be risky but if you want to do it then we suggest only dying your hair one or two shades darker or lighter than your natural colour.

4. Maintenance – keeping hair trimmed regularly might seem excessive especially if you are keen to grow your hair but it will keep your hair looking its very best while you are between styles. This does apply to short styles as well as the need for a trim tends to be more obvious when your hair is short. Regular trims will banish split ends and won’t leave you looking dry and dull.
